2009 Summer Program for New IB Students
Date: 2009-07-10

Dear Parents and Students,

Chengdu Meishi International School is going to hold a three-week summer program from July 13 to 31, 2009. This program will help our potential DP1 students be well prepared to join in our Diploma Program year one curriculum. Please refer to the following information to know better of the program.

1. Schedule

All students will be assessed and be grouped into English, Science and Math classes according to their ability and level. However, the focus will primarily be English skills for all subjects, with special emphasis given to the format of Math and Science lessons, to get the students used to Western teaching styles.  This saves valuable class time later and allows the students to adjust without harming their grades.  If they do an assignment incorrectly during the summer, they simply have to do it again. If they do that during the school year they will get a low grade.  So we want to help them now as much as possible to adjust to a new school.  We will be having integrated lesson of different subjects, and an evening activities program of Art, social interactions in an English immersion environment to maximize functional oral English skills.

2. Time

The summer school will be from July 13th to July 31st. Boarding is required for students from Monday to Thursday night, because there are night time social activities, which are a very important part of the total school culture and learning about other cultures. Classes are from 9 a.m to 5 p.m with a two-hour lunch break in the middle.  We will have evening activities from 6 p.m to 9 p.m or 10 p.m depending on the success of evening activities.

Students are expected to attend all classes and all days including July 31st !

Tuition is ¥4,500 which includes: books, boarding and tuition. The tuition does not include meals which the students may buy with their meal card. The tuition payment deadline is June 30th.

4. Supplies

Clothing and a Meishi food card if you have one. The normal school supplies, such as pen, pencil and notebook.  We will be teaching note-taking and things of that nature so we will provide summer program supplies, but the student will be expected to buy their own supplies for the main school year.  Pen and Pencil choices get so personal that we do not want to get into supplying those for the summer. Color choices for pens are blue or black only, with one red pen for corrections.  The other colors are for teacher use only. Students` bedding will be offered by our school. Students are required to bring stationary, personal care articles or toiletries, clothes, shoes and socks.
